Sharjah: His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, yesterday inaugurated Al Qasimia University established as a specialised Islamic institution.
In his inaugural speech, Dr Shaikh Sultan said: “Today, we witness the birth of a new institution that will add richly and uniquely to Sharjah’s cultural landscape and send a message of tolerant Islam to the entire world.”
He urged the teaching and administrative staff to do their best to train well and qualify students in religion and science-related disciplines at the university to emphasise that Islam is a religion that promotes tolerance, justice, moderation.
Addressing the newly enrolled students, Dr Shaikh Sultan urged them to make the most of their time in the university to gain more knowledge, develop their skills and unleash their creativity and innovation in their majors. He advised them to adhere to Islamic principles and noble humanitarian values.
Al Qasimia University includes the colleges of Theology and Sharia, Law and Arabic Studies, Islamic Economic and Financial Sciences, Engineering and Islamic Architecture, and Law and Media.
Some 250 men and women students from 45 countries have already been enrolled at the university.
Dr Shaikh Sultan was presented with a memorial gift by students, and then he toured the university’s various facilities.
