Abu Dhabi: Only 60 cases of academic violations have been recorded by Abu Dhabi University in the 2016-2017 academic year, compared to 334 cases in 2009-2010, the university said in a statement on Saturday.

The decrease in the rate of academic violations has been recorded despite a significant increase in student numbers, the statement added. In addition, only 11 cases of plagiarism were recorded in 2016-2017, down from 196 instances in 2009-2010. At the same time, collusion dropped from 41 cases in 2009-2010 to six cases in 2016-2017.

Dr Hamdi Al Sheibani, director of the office of academic integrity at the university, said it is important to continue to raise awareness among students on the types of academic violations, adding that this would improve higher education outcomes and ensure the protection of intellectual property rights. The university currently boasts more than 7,000 students.
