Abu Dhabi: About 375,000 schoolchildren across the emirate of Abu Dhabi will go back to school on August 28, the Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) has announced.

For all pupils in public schools and for the majority in private facilities, this will signal the start of the 2016-2017 academic year. An additional 4,700 students in adult education centres and 3,300 homeschooled students will also begin their school year, the education sector regulator added.

About 34,000 teachers in public schools are prepared to receive the pupils, and have been busy making arrangements in anticipation of the school year. Teachers and faculty heads have already undergone specialised curriculum training, and pupils in public schools have already received their books.

The Adec urged parents to reassure their children ahead of the school year, and to ensure they receive nutritious meals and are imparted positive sleep habits.
