Dubai: A worker has been jailed for six months although he denied trespassing in to a villa and molesting a maid.

The 37-year-old Indian defendant, A.K., visited the villa to speak to its Emirati owner, according to records, before he spotted the Sri Lankan maid and molested her.

The defendant abused the fact that the owner was away before he forced his way into the maid’s room and molested her. The accused pleaded not guilty before the Dubai Court of First Instance.

Presiding judge Maher Salama Al Mahdi convicted A.K. of trespassing and molestation. A.K. will be deported following the completion of his jail term.

The Sri Lankan woman testified that the incident happened around 7:30pm when the defendant knocked the villa’s door wanting to speak to her sponsor.

“The defendant handed me a paper and asked me to give it to my sponsor, who was away. He said the paper had his name and contact details. When I tried to close the door, the defendant trespassed into the yard," she said.

"He grabbed me from my dress and I did not know why. I pushed him away and ran towards the nearest room… he chased me and grabbed me from the back," the housemaid said, "He hugged me and put his arms around my waist. Immediately I removed his arms and ran to the room while I cried for help. My coworker opened the door… I entered quickly and shut the door. I told my co-worker what happened. The defendant knocked the door and asked me to give him back the paper because his name and number were written on it.”

The Emirati man said A.K. worked for him as a driver two years prior to the incident. He fired him because he was a drunkard.

Sunday’s verdict remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
