Sharjah: A women reportedly jumped from a six-storey balcony at an apartment complex early morning Saturday in order to escape police arrest, an official at Sharjah Police told Gulf News.
The woman, identified as S.H., 32, was an illegal resident who hailed from Ethiopia.
“The woman tried to escape from the police, and so she jumped from a building located in Al Majaz area of Sharjah,” police said.
The attempt to flee was witnessed by several neighbours who watched the woman plunge to the ground.
Police officials attended the scene and found the victim had sustained serious injuries.
The woman was taken to Al Qasimi Hospital at round 3am to receive medical attention, but after few hours of her admission the woman was pronounced dead.
The police raided the apartment after police were tipped off that an apartment in Al Majaz area of Sharjah was accommodating a number of illegal residents.
The body of the woman was transferred to Al Kuwaiti Hospital.
The incident is under investigation.
