Shaikh Saif directs extending campaign to schools

Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Interior is enhancing its awareness campaigns against drugs, following tough action against drug peddlers.

Dubai Police recently arrested one of the most ‘dangerous’ and wanted drug dealers in the UAE. He was considered one of the most dangerous because he had a large drug trafficking network and international relationships. He smuggled drugs in bulk from abroad and marketed these in the UAE by targeting the youth in residential areas and schools.

Lt Gen Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, has instructed officials to intensify their efforts to make children aware of the dangers of drugs, said a press release on Saturday.

He was presiding over a meeting of the Higher Committee for Drug Control at the Abu Dhabi Police Headquarters.

Shaikh Saif asked the officials to achieve greater coordination and cooperation of all segments of the society to promote awareness about the dangers of drugs, especially among pupils.

He said all institutions in the UAE — legislature, executive and judiciary — are ready to support the plans and programmes of the Higher Committee for Drug Control.

The committee discussed the strategic anti-drug plans at the national level and cooperation with anti-drug agencies at the international level.

Senior officials at the ministry and police officials from various emirates attended the meeting.
