Ajman: Two suspects were arrested in Ajman on charges of robbing bank customers after they left banks with envelopes stuffed with cash, the police said.

Ajman Police have arrested two men of Asian nationality.

Colonel Abdullah Saif Al Matroushi, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Ajman Police, said the suspects monitored customers who withdrew money from banks and robbed them using different tricks.

The suspects targeted customers who withdrew cash and put the amount in an envelope and placed it on the front seat of their cars.

The arrests were made when police suspected two people moving around banks. When police approached them, they ran away. Police chased them and made the arrest.

Police said that during questioning, the Asian men admitted to their involvement in several robberies in Ajman.

The case has been referred to the Public Prosecution.

Col Al Matroushi appealed to all community members to take care of their personal possessions, and make sure to close the doors and windows of their vehicle before departure.

In an earlier interview with Gulf News, Col Al Matroushi said police have dedicated a special unit to tackle bank crimes. Col Al Matroushi advised people to use paper transactions between banks and money exchanges in case of withdrawal of huge sums of money for their own safety.

“Be extremely cautious after you withdraw huge sums of money from banks,” he said.
