Sharjah: Sharjah police have arrested two Pakistani men for producing naswar — a banned tobacco product — at their house in Sharjah. The police impounded the equipment and the raw materials used in the production of niswar.

The sale and production of naswar is against the law in the UAE. Large number of people especially from some Middle East and Arab countries and Pakistan use naswar, an addiction similar to smoking, Colonel Jihad Sahoo, director of Criminal Investigation Department, said the police raided the house after getting tip off that two men living in the residential area were involved in suspicious activities .

The seized tobbaco was packed in small bags.

“We take all possible preventive measures to control illegal activities that can harm the public health and society,” said Col Sahoo.

He explained that naswar contains a mix of chemicals and tobacco, which are harmful for health.

Police completed its investigation and transferred the confiscated raw material to the Sharjah municipality to dispose it off.

The suspects confessed to their crime and told the police about how they brought the raw material into the country to produce naswar.

Col Sahoo has also asked to the public to cooperate with the police in the elimination of such illegal activities.
