Dubai: Police arrested two Asian men and seized 3kg of heroin from their possession in Dubai earlier this month, an officer said on Saturday.

Major-General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant to the Dubai Police Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, said the two men were trying to sell the drugs after taking instructions from a third suspect who was staying in their home country.

“We set a trap and arrested the suspects red-handed after they tried to sell the drugs to an undercover officer near a market in Dubai,” Maj-Gen Al Mansouri said.

Colonel Eid Mohammad Thani Hareb, director of the police’s Anti-Narcotic Department, said the two suspects — 36-year-old N.K. and 32-year-old H.A. — who worked as salesmen were contacted by an undercover officer who offered to buy the drugs as part of the police plan.

“The first suspect took the money from our officer before he went to a car and brought a plastic bag containing 3kg of heroin. We arrested him and then arrested the second suspect who was sitting in the car,” Col Hareb said.

The suspects confessed that they brought the drugs from a warehouse in an industrial area in the country and that the substance was smuggled into the country by a third suspect who is presently outside the country. “The contraband was smuggled into the country by hiding it among automobile spare parts,” Col Hareb added.

The two men have been referred to the Dubai Public Prosecution after charging them with possessing and trading in drugs to complete the investigation.

The police urged the public to contact them on 901 if they have information about any drug-related activities or suspects.
