Abu Dhabi: Two Asian men were sentenced to two months in prison followed by deportation on charges of making illegal purchases on other people’s credit cards.

The public prosecution had referred the two men to the Abu Dhabi Court on charges of fraud as they sent text messages asking people for their credit card numbers to update their bank accounts. The men used the credit cards to buy iPads.

An official source at the Judicial Department in Abu Dhabi has warned the public against responding to any SMS, e-mails or phone calls asking for any data. “Banks will never ask clients for any confidential data through e-mail or phone SMS,” an official stressed.
