Abu Dhabi: A man working as an inspector at a government sector in Al Ain has been arrested for receiving bribes along with his brother in exchange for illegally completing procedures, the Ministry of Interior announced on Sunday.

Lt Col Mattar Mu’ded Al Muhairi, Head of the Anti-Corruption Department at Abu Dhabi Police, said the two Arab brothers were arrested after authorities conducted a covert investigation into the first suspect, a public employee, and his brother, a private sector truck driver, in a corruption scandal.

The government employee, S.F., 38, had barely completed eight months in his job when he reportedly began abusing his position with the assistance of his 29-year-old brother, A.F.

Al Muhairi revealed that anti-corruption officials had foiled the alleged criminal activity through a carefully devised scheme that included an undercover policeman posing as an interested client and agreeing with A.F. to complete a government transaction with the help of S.F. in exchange for cash.

The official also said that the ministry insists on instilling positive morals and values in Emirati society such as integrity, justice, authenticity, transparency and honesty in employment. The ministry also combats any dishonesty and abuse of job position for personal gains.

The ministry invited members of the public to avail of the Aman service on www.aman.gov.ae to anonymously report any information on suspicious activities or by calling 8002626, sending an SMS on 2828 or email aman@adpolice.gov.ae
