Dubai: Two men have been accused of forcing a maid into prostitution after one of them convinced her to stop working for her sponsor and falsely promised to get her a better job.

The Bangladeshi men, 28 and 22, were said to have lured the 31-year-old Bangladeshi maid to come and work for them before they forced her into sex trade.

The two men were apprehended in Al Rashidiya area after a police lieutenant, who according to records, went undercover after he posed as a client and freed the victim in November.

Records said the 31-year-old woman arrived in Abu Dhabi a year-and-a-half ago to work as a full-time maid for her sponsor.

The 28-year-old man got hold of her phone number after a year and told her that she had been making less than a part-time maid at her job, and that he had some better job offer for her.

Once the maid agreed, the 28-year-old helped her abscond from her sponsor and brought her to Dubai. She was taken to an apartment in Dubai, where she saw two other women got suspicious about the situation.

The 28-year-old suspect later told her that she would be working as a prostitute.

When the maid refused to indulge in sex trade, she was confined in the apartment for 10 days and physically and sexually abused by the 28-year-old suspect.

Later, after coercion by the two suspects she agreed to work as a prostitute and after three months the suspects freed her from confinement.

The lieutenant who went undercover to the brothel, arrested the two Bangladeshi men and freed the maid following an informant’s tip off that the duo had plans to sell her for Dh2,800 to work in the sex trade.

Prosecutors charged the Bangladeshi men of sexually exploiting the woman and forcing her into prostitution.

When they appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance, the suspects pleaded not guilty.

The court will appoint lawyers to defend the suspects when it reconvenes later this month.
