Sharjah: Sharjah Police have arrested a 20-year-old Emirati motorist suspected to be responsible for a hit-and-run accident in Al Madam City, which left a four-year-child dead.

The accident, which took place earlier this month, resulted in the death of a four-year-old Arab boy.

The boy was killed when a car ran over him while he was crossing the road.

Police and paramedics moved to the scene of the incident after the police operations room received an accident report. Eyewitnesses told the police that the driver who caused the accident drove away.

Police launched a hunt for the motorist and managed to arrest him after identifying his vehicle from the data gathered at the accident spot. The vehicle was found in a repair garage.

Officers said their investigations revealed that the suspect was driving at high speed when he hit the boy.

He told the police that the child suddenly appeared in front of his car and he tried to avoid hitting him.

Meanwhile, the father of the deceased child said that his son had gone to the grocery store to buy chocolates and some children threw his shoe on the street.

The vehicle hit him when he ran to retrieve his shoe.
