Ras Al Khaimah: RAK Municipality has shut down a supermarket that was caught red handed selling niswar, a type of chewing tobacco.

Municipal inspectors earlier warned and fined the commercial outlet repeatedly, but the emirate's municipality concluded that the violating supermarket was determined to sell the niswar despite all earlier fines and legal measures.

They shut the supermarket down permanently and seized all the niswar that was kept there.

Adel Ali Al Deek, who heads the Environmental and Public Health Department at RAK Municipality, said that the municipality has imposed a huge fine on the violating commercial outlet.

Niswar, a type of chewing tobacco popular among Asians, is mostly used by taxi drivers and has been officially banned by the municipality as it poses a serious health threat.
