Sharjah: An unlicensed manufacturing plant that was refilling and storing gas cylinders in a farm in Sharjah was raided by Sharjah Police in coordination with Al Madam Municipality.

The raid resulted in the arrest of six Asian men for allegedly stealing used gas cylinders, refilling and selling them.

The suspects include five Afghan men and a Pakistani, used a farm in Al Madam to illegally refill the cylinders, police said on Tuesday.

Central region police received information about the gang and their illegal activity.

At the time of the arrest, police found 134 gas cylinders of various sizes being refilled and stored by the suspects, who sold them to restaurants and shops in Al Madam area and areas next to it, by pasting labels of brands on the cylinders.

Four weighing scales and pipes used to transfer the gas were seized.

The suspects have been referred to Al Dhaid Public Prosecution for further action.

Sharjah Police urged residents to only buy gas from authorised dealers to ensure the quality and safety of the product.
