Ras Al Khaimah: Seven Emirati teenagers, aged between 13 and 16, were injured when the vehicle they were travelling collided with a truck on Al Ghail road in Ras Al Khaimah.

Brigadier Dr Mohammad Saeed Al Hamidi, director-general of the General Directorate of Central Operations at Ras Al Khaimah Police, said the accident occurred on Saturday around 6.40pm, when the Emirati boy who was driving the vehicle on two-way road, attempted to overtake a truck. He sped up to avoid a car coming from opposite direction and a result hit the tyre of the truck. He lost control over the wheel and the vehicle veered off the road and overturned several times. Some of the teenagers were thrown out of the vehicle due to the impact of the collision. The injured were taken to Khalifa Hospital for treatment.

Brigadier Al Hamidi said the teen who was driving the vehicle did not have the driving licence. The police have referred the case to the public prosecution for further action.

Brig Al Hamidi appealed to parents to keep an eye on their children and never allow them to drive without a licence.
