Ras Al Khaimah: A senior police officer on Monday warned people against spreading rumours, saying residents distributing such content on social media will be prosecuted.

Major General Ali Abdullah Bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of Ras Al Khaimah Police, was reacting to bogus messages circulating in RAK, Al Ain and Dubai.

One such rumour was about a car involved in kidnapping of children and another was about two women wearing Niqab attempting to kidnap women.

The officer dismissed such messages and warned  public from  distributing or sharing rumours that are “damaging social peace and public order”, saying violators can be prosecuted under UAE federal laws.

Al Nuaimi said: “None of these alleged crimes have been reported to police and we urge public not to cause panic and  spread such rumours.”

The message shared on social media stated that a man, woman and a child aged 10 were travelling in a black car in Shaibyat Rashid and they dragged another child into their car in an attempt to kidnap him. They ran away when they saw his mother. Al Nuaimi denied the presence of such “gangs not only in Ras Al Khaimah, but also in UAE”.

Another rumour circulating in Al Ain, meanwhile, stated that “two women in niqab with a man travelling in a black four-wheel vehicle were knocking on window of cars driven by women in the parking lot of Tawam hospital, trying to kidnap them.”
