Ras Al Khaimah: Police have seized 490 motorcycles and 88 vehicles from various areas for violating traffic rules as a part of a campaign launched by Ras Al Khaimah Police.

The seizures were made during the first quarter of 2015. The move is part of the initiatives of the Ministry of Interior to improve road safety, reduce congestion, accidents, and deaths.

Brigadier Ganem Ahmad Ganem, Director-General of the Central Operations Room at Ras Al Khaimah Police, has asked parents not to let their children ride motorcycles as they have noticed an increase in the number of teenagers riding motorcycles without licences during vacations.

“All parents are urged to monitor their children and alert them about the risks of riding unlicensed bikes, which are mostly unsafe and improperly equipped.”

Brig Ganem said the bikes impounded were not licensed while the vehicles were driven on the roads without number plates.

“Some were making a loud noise, annoying residents and road users, and endangering their safety.”

Field inspectors are deployed on all roads, highways and in remote areas to stop reckless motorists, Brig Ganem said.

“These inspections are enforced round the clock, and all the year round. Any violations must be dealt with punishment as per law,” he added.

He explained that the fine for driving without a number plate is Dh1,000 and 24 black points in addition to the vehicle being impounded for 60 days.
