Dubai: Two Arab men were arrested for smuggling 213,000 captagon pills in Dubai.

The Anti-Narcotics Department caught the two men who were smuggling drugs into the country after they raided their car in Al Muraqqabat area on March 24.

Maj Gen Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant to the Dubai Police Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, said that plans were made to intercept the suspects and professionally executed, based on confirmed informatino received by the department.

Colonel Eid Thani Hareb, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department at Dubai Police, said they found more than 213,000 pills in a bag hidden in the back of the trunk of the suspects’ car.

The first suspect is 27 years old and works as a driver for a land transport company, and the second is 28 and works as a truck driver.

Col Hareb said that captagon is not popular in the UAE and that usually it just passes through the country heading to another.

The two men were caught transporting the drugs from the emirate they lived in to Dubai where they were going to deliver it to a third party based on instructions by a third person who lives abroad.

The two were accused of drug possession with the intent to promote, and were transferred to the public prosecution.

Dubai Police urged the public to call the hotline 800400400 if they suspect any criminal activities related to drugs.
