Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Police rescued a child who was left alone in a vehicle in Al Bateen area of the capital, the police said on Wednesday.
The Abu Dhabi Police Central Operations Command received a call at 5pm on Tuesday that a child was left alone in a vehicle in the Al Bateen area of Abu Dhabi.
Civil Defence and Abu Dhabi Police Criminal Patrols department officials moved immediately to the scene and rescued the boy who was inside the locked car.
Brigadier General Mohammad Mayouf Al Ketbi, Director General of the Civil Defense Department in Abu Dhabi, warned residents of the consequences of leaving children alone in vehicles, which would put their lives at risk of suffocation.
He urged parents to abide by public safety requirements to protect children.
Al Ketbi explained that most accidents occur due to negligence of parents and this may lead to suffocation of children in the car because of the heat that produces carbon dioxide inside the car, in addition to the leakage of some toxic gases from the seats.
He said that some accidents usually happen due to negligence of parents who allow children to play with the keys of the vehicle, resulting in the closure from inside by the remote control.
