Umm Al Quwain: A radar was smashed by unknown people in the Radio station area in Umm Al Quwain, an official at Umm Al Quwain police said.

The official denounced the act which occurred on Sunday night when vandals damaged the radar located in the internal road in the emirate by breaking the glass on the box.

The police patrol that was on duty to control traffic discovered the incident, he said.

First this year

The official said it was the first incident of this type this year. Last year, on Al Ittihad road, a similar incident had occurred.

The official urged the public to cooperate with the police in maintaining public property of the emirate and not to destroy it.

He said an investigation has been launched to nab those responsible and bring them before the law so that exemplary punishment can be meted out in order to deter others and prevent recurrence of such behaviour again.

Suspects held

Several incidents of smashing radars by unknown people took place in Ras Al Khaimah last year and one of the suspects was arrested by Ras Al Khaimah police.

In Umm Al Quwain two radars were damaged last year while one was vandalised this year
