Sharjah: The new police chief in Sharjah, Brigadier Saif Mohammad Al Ziri Al Shamsi, has said he will remain devoted to keeping the emirate peaceful and secure.

Brig Al Shamsi described his appointment “as an honour” after the news was made public on Monday.

Lt Gen Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, issued a decree appointing Brig Al Shamsi as commander-in-chief of Sharjah Police on April 7 and a statement was issued on Monday to confirm the appointment.

Brig Al Shamsi has worked as Director of Eastern Region Police before assuming his new position which was formerly held by Maj Gen Humaid Mohammad Al Hudaidi who has retired.

Brig Al Shamsi’s career with the police spans some 28 years. He has been involved in a number of high-profile cases, including Hurricane Gonu and the Al Baker Tower fire.

“Maintaining safety and security in Sharjah is my top priority,” Brig Al Shamsi said.

Brig Al Shamsi thanked Shaikh Saif for the trust placed in him and said his appointment was an honour that would allow him to serve the country and contribute to maintaining security across the emirate.

In 1989, Brig Al Shamsi graduated from the Police College in Abu Dhabi and has undertaken several training courses in criminology and criminal investigations. He has held a number of positions in his career including:

In 1989, he worked as an officer in the Traffic and licensing Department, going on to became director of the licensing vehicle branch.

In 2005, he became the director of Kalba police station.

In 2006, he was appointed at the Eastern Region Police Department.

From 2008 to 2015, he was the director of Eastern Region Police Directorate.

On April 7, 2015, he was appointed commander-in-chief of Sharjah Police.

Brig Al Shamsi was born in 1967 in Sharjah into a well-known Emirati family.

He is married and has eight children, four sons and four daughters.
