Fujairah: Fujairah Police on Thursday said they had arrested three youths suspected of being responsible for a hit-and-run accident at Fujairah Corniche, which left one person dead and three injured early on Wednesday.

Brigadier Mohammad Ahmad Bin Ganem Al Kaabi, commander-in-chief of Fujairah Police, told Gulf News that an Emirati youth was run over by a speeding car while he was at the corniche with three friends.

All the victims and suspects are Emiratis and in their 20s.

The suspects were arrested hours after the incident after police identified the vehicle from information gathered at the accident scene.

“We are interrogating the motorist and two men who were with him at the time of the accident.” Brig Al Kaabi said.

Police patrols and paramedics rushed to the scene after the operations room received a call about the accident at around 3am.

Brig Al Kaabi said investigations revealed that the driver of the vehicle was speeding and not paying attention to the road.

The injured were moved to Fujairah hospital for treatment.

The case has been referred to public prosecution.
