Sharjah: A 41-year-old Arab woman died after falling from the balcony of her 19th floor apartment in Sharjah’s Al Khan area on Saturday morning, an official at Sharjah Police told Gulf News.

The accident happened around 7.45am at the 48-storey tower in Al Khan area in Sharjah, police confirmed.

An estimated 300 families from different nationalities live in the tower.

Authorities were called to the scene after eyewitnesses saw the mother of three children fall to the ground.

A team from the Criminal and Investigation Department (CID) was dispatched to the building, where they found the dead woman whose body was moved to Al Kuwaiti Hospital for an autopsy.

The victim, identified as A.M.F., was reportedly having health problems and she was informed that she was suffering from cancer.

Police said they were interviewing the family, who is from Syria, at Al Buhairah police station.

A neighbour who saw the woman falling told Gulf News that she was suffering from shock and could not forget the scene of the tragic incident.

He said that on Saturday around 7.45am, he heard a loud crash outside the building and he went out to see what was going on.

He saw the victim fall on a car which was parked in front of the building.

The car, he said, belonged to a tower resident who stayed on the 26th floor.

The witness said a building security guard covered the body until police reached the scene.

“The family has been living in the tower for almost four years and have very little contact with their neighbours,” he said.

The ambulance transported the woman’s body to hospital before it was taken to the forensic laboratory of Sharjah Police.

An official said that her fall was suspected to be an attempted suicide, but police are still investigating the case.
