Sharjah: A Chinese man on a tourist visa was killed when a huge slabs of marble fell on him, police said on Monday.

The accident took place on Sunday morning at the headquarters of the company, Blue Sky Marble, in Industrial area No 15.

Police operations room received call around 9.45am and a team moved to the scene of the incident where the victim was pronounced dead.

A source in the company told Gulf News that the victim was identified as 47-year-old L.H.W. The victim had come to the UAE on a visit visa and was working for a company in Egypt. The victim was giving biscuit to the workers when the incident happened.

The source said that some workers were unloading blocks of marble from a container when the incident took place.

“While unloading the marble from the left side of the container, the movement caused the pile on the right side of the container to fall,” the source said.

Sharjah Police have launched an investigation to establish the circumstances leading to the accident.

Police summoned employees who were present when the incident took place.

The Chinese Embassy has been informed about the incident, the police said.
