Dubai: A man jumped from his apartment on the fifth floor of an Al Barsha building after being locked up by two men and died from the fall, a court heard on Sunday.

Dubai Public Prosecution charged the two men, M.A.O.O. and A.Y.K.Y. with locking up a man against his will while the building’s watchman, W.K.J.K., was charged with assisting the two suspects.

The victim, I.G.I., had bought a number of mobile phones from the two men and paid them using a cheque, which later bounced.

Court documents said the two main suspects, M.A.O.O. and A.Y.K.Y., called the victim many times to pay the money he owed.

The two men then tried going to his apartment to talk to him, but the victim did not answer the door or their calls.

On the day of the incident, February 8, the suspects had gone again to try to meet I.G.I., but this time they asked the watchman if I.G.I. was inside his apartment, and he told them he was. The two suspects then asked for the watchman to help them by ringing the door bell while they hid so that the victim would open the door. The watchman agreed, and did as he was asked. As soon as the door opened, M.A.O.O. and A.Y.K.Y., entered the victim’s home without permission and closed the door behind them.

The watchman left and went back to the ground floor.

The two suspects tried to convince the victim to pay, and the discussion got heated.

One of the two men pulled the apartment’s key — that the victim was holding in his hand — and both suspects left the apartment and locked I.G.I. inside.

One of them waited outside the apartment while the other went to the ground floor to call the police and report the victim for not repaying the money he owed. The watchman was then alerted by one of the building’s security guards that a man had fallen from the building. When the watchman went to check, he found out it was I.G.I. The watchman then told the two suspects what had happened.

The three men went to where the victim’s body was lying, and waited there until the police arrived.
