Abu Dhabi: A man has been convicted of possessing five CDs containing pornographic material featuring children.

The Abu Dhabi Court of Misdemeanours sentenced the national from a Gulf country to six months in prison and fined him Dh150,000.

The court said the man did not distribute the explicit content but intended to using it for his personal gratification.

The Abu Dhabi Family Prosecution had conducted an investigation in collaboration with neighbouring countries during which a number of individuals were found to be accessing prohibited websites using special software and then concealing their identities using other programmes.

When the suspect’s home was searched, five CDs containing pornographic material featuring children were found in addition to some taken by him on his mobile phone and then transferred to his laptop. According to the Information Technology law, violators can be jailed for a minimum of six months and fined Dh150,000 for possessing pornographic material involving minors.
