Sharjah: A man who assaulted his wife and her sister with a sword following a dispute has been arrested by Sharjah Police, Gulf News has learnt.

The incidence took place at around 11.30am on Wednesday when the 28-year-old  Moroccan wife, identified F.A.Z., was attacked by her Emirati husband in Al Gharayen area where she was staying with her 32-year-old sister, identified B.A.H., after heated argument.

The victims were immediately rushed to Al Qasimi Hospital with multiple injuries after the attack.

The wife and her sister were reported to be in stable condition after getting treatment for lacerations in different parts of their bodies.

After the attack was reported to the police operation room, a team from Al Gharb Police station rushed to the couple's house.

Upon the police officers' arrival, the husband allegedly locked up his two children, aged three years and 12 months, and threatened to hurt them.

The officers, armed with authorisation from the Public Prosecution, entered the house, arrested the husband and took the children away.

Initial investigation found that the husband was under the influence of drugs.

Meanwhile, the two children were sheltered by the Child Helpline after it received a request from Al Gharb Police station.

Police said that Mohammad Mubarak Al Gafli, head of the Child Helpline, came and took the two children after police entered the house.

The children, who are reported to be in good condition, will stay with the shelter until their mother recovers, the official said.
