Sharjah Police arrested a man Thursday wanted in several cases of internet scam as well as taking money from people by selling forged car licence plates.

The suspect, an Emirati, identified as A.A, was illegally selling registration certificates of distinguished number plates, claiming them to be genuine.

The suspect was also charged with breaching the trust of residents and taking money through illegal means.

"We received a number of complaints about a man who was scamming people by selling vehicle license plates.

An investigation was immediately launched, and we discovered that the suspect was carrying out the illegal activities in an area in Ajman," said an official from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Sharjah Police.

Phones found

"After attaining the legal procedures, the suspect's vehicle was searched and 11 mobile phones were found in his possession in addition to a number of mobile SIM cards and a number of forged licence plate numbers," said the official.

The suspect was arrested and confessed that he used to buy mobile numbers. He also claimed to interested buyers that he possessed distinguished and attractive number plates.

Sharjah Police also discovered that the suspect was involved in other fraud cases.

He is currently detained and will be referred to Sharjah Public Prosecution.

Sharjah police has urged the public not to believe the claims of such conmen and that a license plate can only be purchased through legal channels.
