In separate case, four 17-year-olds arrested for spree of thefts from vehicles

Ajman/Sharjah: A man was arrested for allegedly stealing Dh107,000 from an unlocked car parked at a school zone in Al Jurf area in Ajman, Ajman Police said on Monday.

Colonel Abdullah Saif Al Matroushi, director of Criminal and Investigation Department at Ajman Police, said the owner of the car, G.W.A, left his car parked at the school without making sure it was locked properly.

He left an envelope containing cash he had withdrawn from a bank inside the car before leaving to pick up his children from school.

When he went back to his car, he found the envelope with the money had disappeared.

He immediately reported the incident to Ajman Police, who tracked down the suspect, an Asian man living in Dubai.

In cooperation with Dubai Police, the man was arrested. Dh16,000 was found at the time of the raid, as well as a receipt of a money transfer worth Dh81,630.

Police also recovered expensive items, including jewellery.

They said that during questioning the suspect confessed to the crime.

Col Al Matroushi urged residents not to leave money or valuables in vehicles. He also called for community members to be cautious when carrying large sums of money.

Gang of four held in Sharjah

In an unrealted incident, Sharjah Police has arrested four juveniles who allegedly broke into dozens of vehicles and stole their contents over the course of four days.

The car owners reported damage to their vehicles, and in some cases valuables were stolen. The gang forced open the cars’ windows, leaving little evidence of the break-ins.

Police formed a team and managed to identify the suspects and arrest all of them.

The four suspects, all 17 years old, are unemployed and did not join school, he said.

Col Al Ajel advised people not to leave any valuables in their cars, not even small coins, because it could tempt those who have weak souls.

He urged residents to report such crimes to 999, 901 or the toll-free number Najeed 800151.
