Dubai: Police have arrested an Arab man  after he allegedly killed his girlfriend and dumped her in a travel bag inside her flat because she wanted to break up with him.

Major General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri

Major General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant to the Dubai Police Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, told Gulf News that they found the body on April 18 inside a travel bag in her flat in Bur Dubai.

Police received a call about a Vietnamese woman missing since April 16. Police officers went to check her apartment, broke open the door and found the decaying corpse of a woman inside a travel bag.

“She was strangled to death and the safe box was open, and we thought it’s a robbery. Later, we discovered during initial investigations that her boyfriend killed her and robbed her jewellery,” Major General Al Mansouri said.

Within three hours of finding the body, police identified the killer.

Dubai Police set a trap for the killer identified as A.K. and arrested him near the company where he works in Al Quoz area.

“He tried to escape but we managed to arrest him. He confessed that he met the victim and became friends but later the victim started ignoring him and wanted to end the relationship,” Major General Al Mansouri added.

On April 13, the suspect called her asking to meet to settle their relationship and he visited her at 9:30pm, when she told him that she wanted to break up with him.

“She went to the bathroom and he followed her and strangulated her to death with his hands. He put her body in the travel bag and stole her jewellery and watches and then left. After three hours he was arrested.”

The suspect stole two Rolex watches, phones, jewellery and some cash. The police recovered these items from his home later.

The suspect was referred to Dubai Public Prosecution to finish the investigation.
