Sharjah: Police have launched a manhunt to arrest a three-member gang in a failed attempt to steal money from a money exchange in Al Nahda area in Sharjah, Gulf News has learnt.

An official from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) said the gang members, all African, ran away after attacking three employees of the money transportation vehicle who were transferring money in boxes to a vehicle parked in front of the exchange.

The employees resisted and managed to foil the attack. The suspects attacked the employees with a knife and then ran away before the matter was reported to the police.

A complaint was logged in at the operation room on April 12, at about 9.30pm.

As a result of the attack, three employees, Indian N.M, 31, Pakistani O.A., 26, and the third individual, a Kenyan, A.K., 29, sustained injuries. They were taken to Al Kuwaiti hospital for treatment. Two of them were discharged while the Indian employee was admitted to the hospital due to his condition.

Police were able to identify the attackers through surveillance camera footage installed at the exchange house. The suspects had been monitoring the vehicle for a period of time before the attack, police said.
