Sharjah: Three men offering free rides to their victims have been arrested for allegedly robbing their unsuspecting passengers.
The suspects used a rental car and preyed on passengers which they drove to remote areas in the emirate.
The gang travelled in one car.
One of them would drive the car while the other two would pretend to be passengers before picking up an unsuspecting passenger, said Sharjah Police.
To carry out the scam, one of the suspects would tell the other so-called “passengers” that his money has been stolen and then ask all the passengers to hand over their wallets to be searched.
As soon as the unsuspecting real passenger handed his wallet, he would be robbed by the gang, and then kicked him out of the car which sped off, said Colonel Ahmad Bin Darwashi, Director of Central Region police.
Col Bin Darwashi said that Al Dhaid police station have received several complaints about the same scam.
The suspects stole Dh26,000 from one of the victims and Dh9,400 from another victim.
