Dubai: Three Nigerian men were charged by the Dubai Public Prosecution on Sunday with the murder of their compatriot, J.A.A., and illegally consuming alcohol.
The three suspects, A.A.A., M.I.A., and T.M.A.M., all in their mid-twenties, and the victim were attending a birthday party at their shared accommodation in May this year, where they were drinking alcohol.
During the party, a fight broke out between the four and the victim punched one suspect. The three then physically attacked the victim resulting in his death.
One man used a broomstick handle and stabbed the victim in his arm, which led to severe haemorrhaging. Another suspect hit the victim with a broken glass bottle, and the other punched him. A.A.A. was arrested in the accommodation the following morning. He attempted to resist arrest.
M.I.A. was arrested at Dubai airport attempting to leave the country and T.M.A.M. was arrested in Sharjah.
During questioning, the suspects denied their involvement in the incident but each said the other two were the ones who attacked the victim.
DNA and forensic evidence incriminated the suspects and witnesses also identified the men in a line-up.
Their case has been transferred to the Criminal Court.
