Sharjah: A three-member gang has been arrested by Sharjah Police for allegedly running a fake perfume factory from a farm in Al Madam.

All the suspects are Bangladeshis identified as M. H.A., N. L.A. and M .T.A.

A large number of fake perfume bottles were confiscated during a joint raid by Sharjah and Al Dhaid police as well as inspectors from Al Madam municipality on a farm.

Police found large quantities of empty perfume bottles, stickers of well-known brands and packaging and refilling machines.

The suspects would refill the empty bottles at the farm, place stickers of various perfume brands on the bottles and package them to sell at stores in other emirates at cheap prices, police said.

Colonel Haran Al Katbi, acting director of the Central Region, urged residents not to buy counterfeit goods and report any illegal activities to the police. He also called on farm owners to monitor their properties and to make sure no illegal activities are being carried out by people who lease them.

Col Al Katbi said “The inspectors maintain round-the-clock vigil against trademark violations and products that are harmful to humans and the reputation of the market.”

Col Al Katbi added, “Counterfeit products pose a serious threat to ethical trade practices and we work with trademark owners to make sure that such products do not enter the local market.”
