Dubai: An engineer joyfully hugged his wife and daughter on Tuesday outside a courtroom when he heard that a judge had dismissed his case of stealing a businessman’s iPad.
The Filipino engineer, B.S., succeeded in convincing the Dubai Court of First Instance to drop his case after he reconciled with the Indian businessman, who forgot his iPad on an aircraft during a one-day business trip to Dubai.
B.S. provided the court with a written waiver that he obtained from the businessman after he returned the iPad to him.
The Filipino had to go back and forth to court over a period of one month before he managed to have the case dropped on Tuesday.
B.S. was immediately dismissed from his job after it was discovered that he had stolen the iPad.
The Indian businessman exposed the identity of the engineer through the iCloud application.
When the businessman contacted the airline’s lost and found section, a receptionist informed him that his iPad had not been found on the aircraft.
A few days later, his wife called the airline to inform them that their employee, B.S., had stolen the iPad.
The wife told the airline employee that they had discovered through her husband’s iCloud account that B.S. had changed her husband’s username and logged onto the iPad.
“We found B.S.’s real identity and that he worked an engineer at the airline through his Facebook account,” the wife claimed to the employee.
B.S. pleaded guilty and sought mercy when he appeared in court.
A Pakistani policeman testified: “The airline employee claimed that the businessman’s iPad bears a serial number. Via iCloud, the Indian claimant discovered that B.S. had changed his log-in details and used the stolen iPad. B.S. admitted during questioning that when he went to check the aircraft following the flight, he found the iPad and took it.”
