Ras Al Khaimah: Police have foiled an attempt to export 10.8 million tramadol pills to an African Arab country on the first day of Eid Al Fitr.

Major General Ali Abdullah Bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of Ras Al Khaimah Police, said the Anti-Narcotics Department at Ras Al Khaimah Police received a tip off about the bid to export a large quantity of drugs via Ras Al Khaimah airport.

The shipment of tramadol pills came from an Asian country on board a cargo plane, and the plan was to export it to the Arab country. All legal procedures were taken in coordination with the airport Customs to seize the shipment once the plane arrived at the airport, Maj Gen Al Nuaimi said.

He revealed that the seizure took place after the cargo plane and the cargo was referred for an inspection and passed through the X-ray scanner.

Police found 10.8 million tramadol tablets in the cargo, and the suspects were arrested and referred to legal authorities.

Maj Gen Al Nuaimi praised the Interior Ministry’s support and constant coordination between all anti-narcotics departments in the country that resulted in aborting the attempt and arresting the perpetrators.

He lauded Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, for his eagerness and close follow-up of all issues and activities.
