Dubai: Police on Tuesday confirmed a Gulf News report that a man committed suicide after strangling his two daughters.

Gulf News reported on Tuesday that a man was found dead in his swimming pool. His two daughters, aged three and seven, were found dead in the house by his wife who had returned late at night after attending a concert.

Police on Tuesday said investigations revealed the Pakistani man killed his daughters in the bathroom of their upmarket villa before drowning himself in the family’s pool.

Police have ruled out homicide in the man’s death. Police said it seems the man had family problems. Investigators have questioned family members and the housemaid.

Sources said the Pakistani mother found the bodies of her two daughters when she returned home at 1am on Monday after attending a concert at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. She contacted police after she could not find her husband. His body was found in the pool at around 6am that morning after an extensive police search.

An autopsy confirmed the girls had been strangled.

Police said their bodies will be released soon.

The family villa is in the Al Waha community behind Global Village.

The mother was admitted to a local hospital following the discovery of the bodies.

Gulf News learnt that the father, identified as K.I., who was director of operations for a multinational company in Dubai, was at home with his brother-in-law on Sunday night.

Police said that the case will be transferred to the public prosecutor for further investigation.
