Dubai: Dubai Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Sunday revealed that worrying crimes have dropped from 51.2 crimes per 100,000 of the population in 2014 to 49.8 in 2015.

The numbers were revealed during an inspection visit by Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Dubai Police Chief, to the department last week.

Maj Gen Al Mazeina also praised the increase in people subscribing to the Dubai Police home security service from 282 in 2014 to 384 in 2015.

In 2015, the department reached out to 79,143 victims, as opposed to 69,578 victims in 2014.

The Anti-Economic Crimes Department of the CID handled 524 cases in 2015, and transferred 570 suspects to the relevant authorities.

The CID’s Wanted People Department also arrested 11,871 people who were wanted locally for money-related crimes, a 10.5 per cent increase from 2014, as well as 233 internationally wanted people.

The department also extradited 54 internationally wanted suspects and received 29 people wanted in the UAE from abroad. The department also issued 148 international notices.

The Tourism Security Department at CID visited 2,078 locations in Dubai and four events and registered 1,285 complaints, an increase from 1,981 visits to different locations in Dubai, seven events and 786 complaints in 2014.
