Dubai: A cook has been jailed for three months after being found guilty of molesting a female colleague who accused him of repeatedly taking liberties with her despite her strong disapproval.

The complainant said that the 33-year-old Nepalese cook, L.K, was always asking her to become his girlfriend and using the conversation as a pretext for his advances.

The 22-year-old Filipina said L.K. was always trying to convince her how much he loved her, ignoring her strong disapproval of his advances.

The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted L.K. of molesting his coworker and sentenced him to three months in jail followed by deportation.

The woman testified: “One day he came to the reception area where I work, and he spoke to me sweetly. Then he groped me, but I pushed him away and asked him to stop.”

Prosecutors accused L.K. of molesting his coworker.

“No sir, I never did that,” L.K. told the judge during his defence plea.

The Filipina testified that the unsavoury incidents played out at a restaurant where she was employed on Shaikh Zayed Road.

“Since I joined work, the suspect constantly harassed me verbally. He used to stalk me every time he had the chance to do so. He said he loved me several times. I always refused to be his girlfriend. One day I scolded him for groping me. He promised that it was the last time, but he continued harassing me. Another day he came out from the kitchen and put a paper in my pocket; he then kept his hand inside and groped my posterior until I slapped his arm strongly. I was infuriated with his non-stop harassment and verbal aggravation. I reported it to the police,” the woman testified.

Prosecution records showed that the defendant had admitted to groping the woman.

The primary verdict remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
