Child kidnap rumours are baseless, police official says

Warns those who circulate such stories on social media will be severely punished

Dubai: Dubai Police have denied rumours on social media regarding gangs luring children and killing them after raping them.

Maj Gen Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant to Dubai Police Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, talking to Gulf News, denied rumours spread via BlackBerry and social networking sites about a gang targeting children. The gang, according to the rumours, lure children, rape and kill them and then sell their body parts.

“These rumours are false and totally baseless,” Maj Gen Al Mansouri said.

“We have tasked the Anti-Cyber Crime Department to follow the case and those found responsible for circulating these rumours will be punished after referring them to the Public Prosecution,” Al Mansouri said.

Police warned those who circulate such rumours would be severely punished.
