Police are investigating the death of an 11-year-old boy who fell from the sixth floor of Al Jawaher building in Al Majaz area on Thursday.

The boy, identified as H.M.H, a British national of Yemeni origin, died on the spot after falling from the window of his room, the family told Gulf News.

According to a family member, the boy was very active and friendly and was studying at the International School of Creative Science where his mother is a teacher. On the day of the incident, he had told his friend that he was planning to jump from the window of his room.

“It’s the negative influence of the internet and YouTube on children,” the family member said without elaborating.

The deceased was the eldest and had another brother aged four and an eight-year-old sister.

On Thursday, when the mother returned from school, her daughter informed her that her brother had jumped from the window of his room.

The mother ran to the window and saw people and ambulance gathered around her son.

Police said the child’s parents were questioned following the tragedy.

The police operations room received a call around 6pm from eyewitnesses. A team from Al Buhairah police station is investigating the incident.

The body of the child was moved to Al Qasimi Hospital around 6.40pm and then to the forensic laboratory.

The body was released and the boy was buried on Friday.

Sharjah Police, meanmwhile, warned parents to watch their children and their friends as well as watch their internet activity.

In another incident, a 51-year-old Syrian man died after falling from the 19th floor of a building in Al Qasimiya area yesterday morning, a Sharjah Police official told Gulf News.

Initial investigations revealed that the man had apparently committed suicide.

The man died on the spot. His body was transferred to a forensic laboratory for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Meanwhile, a 24-year-old Bangladeshi woman survived a fall from the balcony on the first floor of a building located in Al Qassimyah area.

The incident took place on Thursday night at a round 9pm.

The woman has been taken to Al Kuwaiti Hospital where her condition is said to be stable.

Al Gharb police station is investigating the incident.
