Dubai: A man has been accused of attempting to murder a worker, who paid him Dh30,000 to process visit visas that turned out to be forged.

The 27-year-old Bangladeshi worker, M.A., testified that he paid his 36-year-old compatriot, M.S., Dh30,000 to issue visit visas to his relatives.

“When I discovered that the visas were forged, I asked M.S. to return the money. He called me to his house to resolve the issue… he stabbed me with a cleaver in my back,” M.A. claimed to prosecutors.

According to the charge sheet, M.S. was accused of attempting to kill M.A. by stabbing him in the back.

M.A. was rushed to hospital and swift medical intervention helped save his life, according to prosecution records.

The defendant was on bail until he failed to show up before the Dubai Court of First Instance where he was scheduled to be prosecuted on Sunday.

Presiding judge Maher Salama Al Mahdi cancelled the defendant’s bail and issued an arrest warrant against him.

Police will have to arrest M.S. and produce him in court on March 31.

The worker testified that he contacted the suspect in March 2012 and paid him Dh30,000 to issue visit visas to his relatives.

“Later it was discovered that the visas were forged. I called M.S. and asked him to pay me the money. I met him outside his residence, but he asked me to go inside. I refused. I also refused to give him the photocopies of the forged visas… when I was walking away, he stabbed me. I fell down unconscious,” claimed the worker.

A Bangladeshi salesman called the police when he saw M.A. crying for help and walking with difficulty.

“He was bleeding profusely from his back,” claimed the salesman.

A Yemeni policeman testified that the worker guided them to the suspect’s house but he was not there.

“M.A. waited for the defendant to show up and, as soon as he did, he informed us. The suspect was arrested and taken into custody,” claimed the policeman.
