Ajman: Ajman Police have launched a new security campaign titled “No to the spread of rumours”.

The campaign aims to educate the community about the importance of cross-checking information rather than spreading rumours.

The campaign aims to reduce the spread of rumours, Ajman Police said on Sunday.

Colonel Abdullah Saif Al Matroushi, director of the Criminal Investigation Department of Ajman Police, said that various media communication means have positively contributed towards facilitating communication, but some users misuse this technology to spread rumours.

“Through this campaign, we hope people use social media correctly and safely, without circulating rumours, accusing or humiliating others. Social media may be used to spread inaccurate information which can jeopardise public safety, and it can be considered a threat if misused,” he added, while noting that since the emergence of this media more rumours have been spreading.

Col Al Matroushi pointed out that some users use false names to circulate wrong information. He urged social media users to be very cautious and to never use this media to stir controversies or spread wrong information.
