Ajman: A suspect was arrested in Ajman after he attempted to rob a woman leaving a bank with an envelope stuffed with cash.

Colonel Abdullah Saif Al Matroushi, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Ajman Police, confirmed on Monday that the suspect snatched the woman’s purse containing the money from inside her car after he knocked on the window of the vehicle.

Police nearby saw the suspect and chased him quickly and made an arrest.

Police said that during questioning, the Asian man said he was involved in several robberies in Ajman.

The case has been referred to the Public Prosecution.

Col Al Matroushi appealed to all community members to take care of their personal possessions, and make sure to close the doors and windows of their vehicle before departure.

In an earlier interview with Gulf News, Col Al Matroushi said police have dedicated a special unit to tackle bank crimes as well as a quick response team.

Col Al Matroushi advised people to use paper transactions between banks and money exchanges in case of withdrawal of huge sums of money for their safety.

“Be extremely cautious after you withdraw huge sums of money from banks,” he said.
