Abu Dhabi: The manager of a trolley collection service operating at the Abu Dhabi International Airport was recently referred to the Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance by the Public Prosecution for allegedly illegally employing 25 workers.

The workers are from Asia and Africa, an official from the Public Prosecution said.

The Public Prosecution requested the judge to deport the workers and imprison the manager. The prosecution also requested that the company's manager be ordered to pay between Dh25,000 and Dh50,000 for each of the 25 workers allegedly employed illegally by the company, a statement from the Attorney General's office said.

If granted by the court, the prosecution's request would mean that the manager has to pay a fine of up to Dh1.25 million.

When contacted by Gulf News, Mohsin Al Nasi, manager of the inspection department at the Ministry of Labour (MoL), said that based on the labour law, any company which employed workers illegally could be subject to a fine of up to Dh50,000 per worker.

He added that illegal workers are ensured protection of their rights, for example the ministry ensures that their salaries are paid.
