Abu Dhabi: A patient allegedly murdered a doctor for not getting immediate relief from his painful disease, Abu Dhabi Police said on Monday.

The man is accused of stabbing the doctor with a kitchen knife which he purchased from a grocery near Ahalia Hospital, just before visiting the doctor, a police statement said.

His frustration about a medical condition which did not improve, even after treatment from the deceased doctor, was the only motive of the 46-year-old Pakistani national M.A., according to police.

Police did not reveal the exact medical condition of the accused who was arrested immediately after the incident.

They man attempted to commit suicide in police custody and was referred for a psychiatric check-up, said Colonel Doctor Rashid Mohammad Borshid, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Abu Dhabi Police.

Lieutenant Colonel Jumaa Al Kaabi, Head of Psychological Crimes at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Abu Dhabi Police, said the accused claimed that when he complained about the uncured disease, the doctor provoked him by hitting him with some office stationery materials.

He claimed he then stabbed the doctor on his neck, stomach and several other parts of the body multiple times, the official said.

Police said the accused had hidden the knife somewhere in the hospital and that it was found after his arrest.

The accused had tried to flee, through the staircase of the hospital, but entered the emergency department where he was caught by hospital staff and handed over to the police.

Dr Rajan Daniel, 62, a consultant urologist, was found in a pool of blood in his consultation room on Thursday evening, his throat cut.

The accused is a construction vehicle driver who first visited the doctor about 25 days before the incident, police said.

A hospital spokesman said they never received any complaints from the accused about his treatment.

The accused has been visiting the hospital for the past three months and never raised any complaints nor showed any abnormal or suspicious behaviour, the hospital spokesman said.

The body of the doctor is expected to be repatriated on Tuesday.

The doctor is survived by his wife Geetha George and only daughter Junu, also a medical doctor in India.
