Sharjah: Four pedestrians including a 12-year-old child were run over in Sharjah in one day.

One of them was killed while three sustained serious injuries after being run over in separate incidents in Sharjah in one day, Gulf News has learnt.

All the victims were reportedly jaywalkers.

On Tuesday, a 43-year-old Bangladeshi man became the latest victim to be run over on an industrial area road.

The man identified as K.D. was hit by a speeding car. The accident happened at around 7pm.

The man was killed instantly as he was crossing from an undesignated crossing area. His body was transferred to Al Qasimi Hospital.

The motorist who caused the accident has been taken into custody for questioning.

A 12-year-old Indian child was fighting for his life after being run over in Abu Shagara. He was moved to Al Qasimi Hospital where his condition is described as critical. The driver was taken into police custody for questioning.

In a separate incident, a 47-year-old Egyptian woman is also fighting for her life after being run over by a truck in Al Majaz area in Sharjah on Tuesday night.

The accident happened at around 10.30pm. The woman was run over by the truck when she was crossing the road.

The police operation room received a call at around 10.30pm reporting the incident.

Police team and paramedics responded to the scene.

The woman, identified as S.A.M., was moved to Al Qasimi Hospital for treatment.

The Buhairah police station launched an investigation into the incident while the driver who caused the accident was taken into police custody for questioning.

In yet another incident, a Bangladeshi man aged 25 and identified as Sh.M. was struck by a car at 11.30pm while crossing from an undesignated area on an industrial area road. He was taken to Al Qasimi Hospital while police have launched a manhunt for the driver who caused the accident as the driver escaped from the scene of the incident after his crime.
