Dubai: A woman who claimed she was forced to sell herself to feed her son has been jailed for two years.
The 27-year-old Pakistani woman, F.K., alleged that she agreed to have sex with a 43-year-old man, K.A., from the Comoros Island for money in January after meeting him in a disco where they drank alcohol.
“I am not a prostitute. I was in desperate need of money to send for my child to eat … I had sex with the man for money, but it was that one time,” she said before the Dubai Court of First Instance.
The court jailed F.K. for working in prostitution and jailed K.A. for one year for having paid sex with the Pakistani.
The couple were also jailed an additional month each for drinking alcohol.
Presiding judge Ezzat Abdul Lat said the accused will be deported following the completion of their jail terms.
When asked in court if she worked in prostitution, F.K. said she was not a sex worker. “I came here on a visit visa and was looking for a job. I didn’t find work. I met the man in the disco and agreed to have sex with him for that single time for Dh800,” she said.
K.A. entered a guilty plea and told the court that he met the woman in the club.
