Dubai: A woman has been accused of punching her flatmate and leaving her with partial blindness after brawling over the priority to put their food on the shelves of the refrigerator.

The 34-year-old Tunisian woman was said to have been sharing a flat in Deira with a number of Moroccan women and two of her countrywomen in September.

Sometime around midnight, the 34-year-old woman went to kitchen to take some food from the refrigerator, according to records, before she called her 36-year-old Moroccan flatmate to remove her stuff off the shelf.

Each of the women were believed to have had an allotted shelf in the refrigerator.

When the Tunisian woman asked the Moroccan woman to remove her food items from the rshelf, the two indulged in a heated argument that developed in to a fight.

The two women pulled each other’s hair after which the Tunisian woman punched on Moroccan woman’s eye.

When the flatmates saw blood coming out from the Moroccan woman’s eye, they informed the police about the incident and the injured woman was rushed to the hospital.

Medical reports confirmed that the Moroccan woman sustained partial blindness.

Prosecutors accused the Tunisian woman of assaulting the flatmate and causing her a 20 per cent permanent disability.

The suspect failed to appear before the Dubai Court of First Instance where she was scheduled to enter her plea on Monday.

The Moroccan woman told prosecutors that the suspect assaulted her after a heated argument.

A 31-year-old Tunisian flatmate told prosecutors that the two women quarrelled over keeping the food on the shelves of the refrigerator.

Presiding judge Urfan Omar will announce a ruling in absentia against the suspect on June 19.
